In honor of Black History Month, Olympic Artist, Jesse Raudales, cordially invited everyone to attend the "Peace For The Children" Art Show on February 9, 2007, 7pm-9pm. The special guest host was Academy Award Nominee, Terrence Howard. Jesse auctioned off several paintings for Dwayne Wade and his Wife’s nonprofit, A Woman’s Worth, in order to raise money for little girls who have been physically abused. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of Jesse’s artwork will be donated to the Make A Wish Foundation and CCH Pounder’s Artist for a New South Africa. Champagne and hors d’oeuvres were served. Catering was provided by Chef Marlon Alexander. This event was sponsored by Charron Capri Interior Design, 59 Print, Alliance Worldwide Communications, and Black Orchid Entertainment.
I attended this event with my sister, Susan Pope, CW03 U.S. Marine Corps Retired. We arrived earlier than expected and decided to drive around to find a nice place to eat. There were not too many choices in the area. We ended up at Acapulco’s Mexican Restaurant. Our waiter, Claudia, took special care of us. The food was fantastic. We left the restaurant and headed out to the car. The parking lot was crowed and narrow. My sister could not reverse the car out of the parking space. We were both laughing so hard that tears streamed down our faces. All of a sudden a man jumped out of his car and asked my sister to get out of her car so he could back the car out for her. This gentleman said he had worked as a valet. So my sister jumped out of her car, and he got in the driver’s seat. It happened so quickly that I didn’t have time to get out. So I prayed that this guy was legitimate, and would indeed assist us. He kindly did so, and reversed the car without incident. We thanked him and said our goodbyes. While driving away, we were still laughing because we saw that a line of cars had formed and people were watching this all unfold. We are hoping that it won’t end up on one of those hidden camera shows.
We proceeded to the Pounder-Kone’ Artspace for the art show. There was a large group of people gathered out front as we walked up. Tommy Ford was the first person I recognized. We went inside and the atmosphere was incredible. There was nice music playing, the sounds of laughter, and an alluring aroma of food in the air. We were treated like royalty and served the best champagne, other beverages, and hors d’oeuvres.
I was amazed at the number of people who showed up to support Jesse. There were many top celebrities who attended. I had the pleasure of meeting and talking to Terrence Howard, who is one of my favorite actors. I also met and had great conversation with Tommy Ford, Kym E. Whitley, Tanisha Lynn, Victor Williams, Godfrey, and Shawn Carter Peterson. They greeted us as if we had known them a lifetime. I even got the inside scoop from a few of them, but it’s a secret. All I will say is that you need to watch these celebrities closely because great things are going to happen for them real soon. There were many other celebrities that came out to support Jesse; however, we did not get an opportunity to meet all of them.
After everyone arrived, Jesse’s Manager, Heather Taylor, Alliance Worldwide Communications, graciously thanked everyone for attending. She turned it over to Terrence Howard and Tommy Ford. Terrence shared with us his humble beginnings as it relates to his relationship with Jesse. He shared with us why Jesse was so important to him. It was very touching and my sister and I looked at each other to see who would drop a tear first. I began clapping as if I was the only one in the room. Following Terrence was Tommy Ford who shared his stories. He informed us about so many positive things that he and Jesse have collaborated on. These three gentlemen have a close brotherly bond that is to be admired. Jesse politely thanked them for their kind words and thanked everyone for attending.
The guests mingled and enjoyed one another’s company while viewing Jesse’s mesmerizing artwork. Jesse’s artwork is spectacular! It was delightful to witness the large number of paintings that were sold. Jesse is aware that I am holding out for the Angel painting :-)
I began networking via email with Jesse back in December 2006. After learning more about him, on January 5, 2007, I asked him if he would like to be a featured artist and he gladly said yes. (Read Review >>>). Jesse is articulate, kind-hearted, peaceful, and very humble. He is truly a unique and gifted individual. If you ask him, he will share with you how he gives God all the glory. For that, I admire him. Out of all the wonderful people that I met, I am most excited to have met Jesse. I am so pleased that God allowed our paths to cross in such a magnificent way. It was a "Cinderella night" for me. Jesse, thank you for a night I shall always treasure.
